Introducing our Course: "The Canon of Scripture"
by Dr. Paul Martin Henebury - Thursday, 14 January 2010, 06:14 PM

The Winter Semester 2010 has begun! We are happy to welcome some new students this semester.

I'll now take the opportunity to briefly describe another of our new courses:

The issue of which books belong in our Bibles - and why - is one that is often overlooked by many believers. In previous generations this was perhaps understandable. But today it is vital that pastors and Bible students know what the issues are and how to speak intelligently to them.

Books like The Da Vinci Code and scholars like Bart Erhman have called into question the whole matter of canonicity. Our course The Canon of Scripture makes the case for the 66 books of the Bible and defends the Canon against these postmodern critics.

This course is integrated with the Christian Worldview set forth at Veritas. It is designed especially to overlap the courses on "The Doctrine of the Revelation of God"; "Apologetics"; "Biblical Worldview"; and "Church History."

We hope it will bless all those who enroll!

Your brother,

Paul

Overview of a New Course: Doctrine of the Last Things
by Dr. Paul Martin Henebury - Monday, 4 January 2010, 09:55 AM

The first semester of this new year (starting January 11th) will see the accomplishment of Dr Henebury's seven semester Systematic Theology project. This set of graduate-level courses forms the theological backbone of all other courses at Veritas.

The course on "The Doctrine of the Last Things" provides a thorough analysis of Biblical Eschatology, taking as its guide the well-known dictum: "If the plain-sense makes sense, seek no other sense."

The course begins by looking at Death and the Afterlife before delving into "the Last Things" proper. Although we study competing systems of interpretation like Amillennialism, Postmillennialism, and Covenant Premillennialism, (in greater depth than in most seminaries, citing authorities from these camps), the burden of the course will be the explication of the End Times from a Dispensational Premillennial perspective, with emphasis on the literal fulfillment of the Covenants. We shall also give a critique of "Progressive" Dispensationalism.

We stress the difference between what we might call "definite" as over against "speculative" eschatology. We do not wish to be identified with the more extreme advocates of prophecy. However, this is Bible doctrine. It is important for its own sake. Not least because all other doctrine is completed in it!

This course on "The Doctrine of the Last Things" is available as an independent study for those who cannot give themselves to a full Systematic Theology curriculum.

Preparing for Winter Semester 2010
by Dr. Paul Martin Henebury - Thursday, 24 December 2009, 06:54 PM

As we here at Veritas make ready for the new semester, we have updated the Current Semester page to reflect the four NEW courses to be featured:

  • The Book of Revelation (2)
  • The Canon of Scripture
  • 1st & 2nd Thessalonians
  • Systematic Theology (7): The Doctrine of the Last Things

Courses are now open for enrollment, if you'd like to get a head start with purchasing books and beginning the assigned readings during the holiday break. As always, you may contact me with any questions, or if you need guidance in choosing a study track.

God bless!

Paul.

β€œThe ultimate goal of our quest is a knowledge of God.
We are not interested in doctrines merely as doctrines,
but as they bring us to know God.”
